Mr. Ruiz is a managing partner and an experienced trial attorney whose specialties include employment, public entity defense, construction defect, rail, personal injury, real property, and general litigation. He is a former member of the Board of Trustees for the Mexican American Bar Association. Mr. Ruiz served the City of Los Angeles as a Department of Transportation Commissioner under Mayor Richard Riordan. He also served as a judicial law clerk for the Honorable Harry Pregerson in the U.S. Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals, and for the Honorable Richard A. Paez in the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California. Before founding Vanderford & Ruiz, Mr. Ruiz served as a Deputy Public Defender for the County of Los Angeles.
Mr. Ruiz received his law degree from Stanford University School of Law (1992) where he was an Associate Editor of the Stanford Law Review. He graduated cum laude from Harvard College with a degree in Government (1989). Mr. Ruiz also volunteers for MiMentor/Alliance in Mentorship, an organization devoted to increasing the ranks of diverse doctors and medical professionals nationwide to better provide medical care to underserved communities.
